19th Century Ancient Order of Foresters Chief Rangers Honours Board

A stunning tri fold honours board of chief rangers for the Ancient Order of Foresters from Court Craven. The board lists rangers starting from 1882-1930. The Ancient Order of Foresters (AOF) is a historic friendly society founded in Rochdale, England in 1834. Originating as a mutual aid group, it was established to provide sick pay, funeral grants, and social support for working-class families. Today, it operates as the modern Foresters Friendly Society. The order can be traced back to the 18th century, the society was organized into autonomous branches called "Courts". Members originally paid a few pence a week into a common fund to protect their families from destitution. At its peak in the 19th and early 20th centuries, it expanded rapidly across the British Empire, the United States, and the Commonwealth, with a membership exceeding 700,000 in the 1890s. A fantastic piece of social history and a stunning piece of décor. The lock has been broken on one side so no longer catches but the key is original to the piece. Originally designed to be wall hung one original wall hanging remains but will need something more substantial if wall hanging now. there is mild signs of historical woodworm to the base but this has been treated again as a precaution.
